Who's Dr, Who? Dr. Who, That's Who!

Forgive me while, I've never seen this television show so I don't know much behind the basis of this cake, but I sure enjoyed making it!

This cake was modeled after the Tardis from the old television show on the BBC, Dr. Who. From what I'm told there is a new version of this show playing nowadays, but like I said I'm not an expert and could be completely wrong about that. It was a show about a guy who traveled through time and the tardis was what he used as his "time machine". Any more questions? Google it, because I can't be of any more help! :) Anyways... on to the cake!

This cake was for an intimate engagement party. The groom-to-be's sister ordered this for her brother and his new fiance because he is an avid Dr. Who lover! It was a carved cake but equaled out to be a 4" square cake that was 8" tall. Just enough for 14-16 people... the perfect amount for the party.

The cake was a light lemon cake with vanilla buttercream icing. I then covered the cake in blue fondant, added some details, and voila! ... a tardis cake! Now onto the details (which were very important to the sister-in-law-to-be!)

At the top of each side of the tardis was a Police Box sign. The lettering was hand piped by me. It is exactly what is shown on the Tardis in the TV show. Below that were little white windows cut out on each side.

The top of the cake donned a light. There has to be some source of light when traveling through time, right? I wish I could have had an actual light on top that lit up but not this time. But hey, there's always a next time!

The sign for the door was so tiny that I had to print if off from my computer. It was the only thing on the cake that was not edible. I was bummed about it but there was no way I was going to get all that writing on a tiny little square! The handles and lock on the doors were hand painted with edible silver paint made from vodka and gel food coloring. Don't worry... no one's getting drunk here, the vodka evaporates out to leave just the color!

I give full credit for this banner to the Jessica, the sister of the groom-to-be. She came up with the phrase which I think is not only super cute, but also 100% reflective of this cake. This was really the only distinguishing piece that says that this is an engagement cake. The banner itself is hand cut fondant written on with hand piped buttercream and I love it!

I dropped off this cake at the party and hit the road so I was unable to see any reactions but Jessica sent me an email letting me know it was well received and I was completely happy with it!

"The cake was absolutely amazing thank you thank you thank you! Everyone loved it. It was perfect and delicious." - Jessica S.

Double Engagement... Double the Fun!

This cake was for 4 individuals who shared a common celebration... an engagement! Alyssa and Cole and Jade and Dallas were having a joint engagement party that needed a fancy cake. Buttercream Dreams to the rescue. Alyssa's sister purchased this for the party and after the future mother of the groom and bride (Cole and Jade are siblings) asked for a sheet cake so it would be easy to cut she made it a point to make sure this cake did not look like a grocery store sheet cake. Well, I think I succeeded in that.

This cake was a half sheet cake measuring 11" x 15". It was a decadent chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream. All of the decorations are edible made from fondant. The writing on the cake was handpiped including the writing on the hearts. All of the recipients are fans of Kansas State and if you are a fan of the Wildcats you know that their main color is purple. Stephanie requested that the color purple was incorporated so I obliged. Purple can get real cheesy real fast but I think I strayed away from the cheese factor quite well.

The writing on the cake says it all. A little ditty I came up with on a whim when Stephanie (Alyssa's sister) and I were trying to come up with something for Alyssa's first engagement cake. It was too much writing for that cake but it fits great here!

The happy couples had a champagne and rings theme for this cake. Each couple had their own toasting champagne flutes and a heart that says it all.

A little bubbles for your bubbly? I think so! It's so amazing how little balls of fondant placed in strategic spots can look like the little bubbles that tickle your nose when your sipping on some champagne.

A little banner graced the front of this cake making the statement that everyone at the party wanted to say to the two happy couples.

And how about the sides of this cake. Dots and rings... DIAMOND rings! I like how all of the dots are a little random. And that little ribbon on the side, yup it's fondant and 100% edible. It matches the purple "ribbon" on top of the cake that lays out the frame for the main design. I know who will be claiming that at the party (Ahem Stephanie)!

Here's a close up of one of those fancy rings. How's the cut, clarity, color, and carat? Ok, that's a little dramatic since it is just a cake! Either way they turned out great!

Although I was not able to attend the party I'm sure the party guests and guests of honor loved it. Here's the fabulous foursome with their cake. Congratulations Alyssa and Cole! Congratulations Jade and Dallas!

She Said Yes!

And it's a good thing too! If she hadn't I don't know what would have happened to this beautiful cake!

This cake was for a couple who just got engaged! It was a suprise from the sister of the bride-to-be. She wanted it cute, girlie, and it definitely had to have diamond rings all over it! The cake was a 6 inch round strawberry cake filled and iced with vanilla buttercream and covered with fondant. Originally the color scheme was going to be blues and brown but I'm glad she changed her mind to pinks... it looks so cute!

Normally I just cover my cake boards in foil but with this special, once in a lifetime occasion it called for a little extra effort on my part! The edges were adorned with tiny pearls that shimmered when set up against the foil. It really added a little umpf to this cake!

And what's an engagement cake not surrounded by giant diamond rings? Just a cake, a really cute cake, but just a cake... that's what it is! These rings are made from gumpaste and completely edible. Well except for the pearls on the ring on top of the cake. I wouldn't want to want to eat them because they do dry rock hard but if you wanted to you could eat them! :) Yay to edible diamond rings!

A perfect combination of polka dots and stripes make this cake absolute perfection. The color combination of pinks and brown help the cause as well. The brown dots lining the base and top of the cake were hand piped chocolate buttercream. The oh so important words were also hand piped chocolate buttercream. Every girl loves a little bit of chocolate with her bling bling!

Congratulations Cole and Alyssa! I was so happy to be a part of their special surprise day! Here's to your engagement and what every new day brings to your relationship!

"Alicia, thank you so much for making Alyssa & Cole's engagement cake! It was absolutely perfect and they were thrilled with it! I couldn't even imagine a cuter cake for such a special day! YOU ARE THE BEST! :)" -Stephanie P.
