It's been awhile....

So it's been awhile since my last post. I have been busy baking my own little cupcake who was born on May 2nd, 2012. He's the light of my world and therefore, I haven't had the time to create my clever, witty, and fun posts about my cakes. Well, I will make it up to you with a picture of my little one being so darn cute it hurts as well as a plethora of posts about cakes that I have not had the chance to highlight. These posts will just be pictures but if you have any questions about an individual cake I would be happy to exchange some witty banter in a comment or two.

So here it goes...

My cupcake...

And onto my other creations in 3... 2... 1....

Spiderman, Spiderman, Does whatever a spider can!

This was for a little boy who was turning 3 and his favorite super hero just happens to be Spiderman! It was a tall order as the little boy has many food allergies.. peanut, egg, milk, soy, but the rest of the family do not have the same allergies. Needless to say he got his own "cake" which was the top tier. A special order just for him.

The bottom tier of the cake was a 6 inch round orange cake with vanilla buttercream filling. It tastes just like a dreamsicle! And the top tier was a 4 inch round vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream. Obviously I used a very different recipe for this cake because of all the stipulations, so hopefully it turned out delicious!

The top layer of the cake donned a black fondant spiderweb to represent the superhero that the birthday boy knows and loves. Each string was hand rolled and placed strategically to look like a spider web. I believe that the parents of the birthday boy were going to place a spiderman action figure on top to really make this cake extra special.

Even the frosting was a special blend to cater to this birthday boy's allergies! It was dyed red with some food coloring because of course red is a signature color of Spiderman!

And what is Spiderman without a city to watch over?!?! The buildings were hand cut black fondant with yellow windows. the city went all around the bottom layer of the cake. Since it was a birthday cake there had to be those famous "Happy Birthday" words on the there as well as the birthday boy's age!

While the city was safe from all the bad guys, this birthday boy had a spiderman-rific birthday cake. His mom came to pick it up and she loved the cake. I can only hope everyone else loved it too! I love doing character cakes... bring on those cute little characters people! I liked the way this cake turned out as well even though it had its challenges with all the allergies I had to cater to.

Happy birthday! I hope you had a great one to go along with your great cake!

The 3 F's: Fifty, Funky, and Fabulous (and you can't forget Fun either!)

This cake was for a woman who is 50, FUNKY, and FABULOUS and just happens to be a friend's future mother-in-law!

Candice's birthday cake was a 6 inch square chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream filling and icing. A classic combination for a classic lady!

Her future daughter-in-law wanted this cake to be bright and fun, and I definitely think I accomplished that! The entire cake was decorated with buttercream swirls, zig zags, and polka dots in lime green, purple, and light blue.

I even went as far as to decorate the cake board! I love having creative freedom!

It was requested that a disco ball be incorporated into the cake somehow. I decided what better way to put a disco ball on a cake than for the number 0!!!! I decorated the disco ball with silver sprinkles to really make it shine! I think it turned out great.

Like many residents of Kansas, Candice is a big Kansas State fan, hence the wildcat on the cake. It kills me a little bit inside each time I put a Wildcat on a cake :( , since I'm a die hard KU Jayhawk fan, and as you may or may not know these two colleges are huge rivals. As long as it makes the cake cuter, I guess I'll just sacrifice and keep making those wildcats! :)

The birthday girl also loves to make salsa. Yes, I'm talking hot, delicious, edible salsa. This love of making salsa translates to her car as well. She has a license plate, much like the one you see here, that says HTSALSA! How fun is that?!?!

I loved the way this cake turned out. So funky and fun! If you ask me this cake is not for some boring 50 year old's birthday, it's definitely for someone who is 50 and fabulous! My friend loved it and assured me that her future mother-in-law would love it too!
