Baby Forest Critters Galore!

This cake was for a friend's baby shower. She is expecting a little boy and the invitations match his nursery pretty darn well. The host of the baby shower wanted the cake to look like the invitation as well. While it took a while to decorate this cake it was well worth the response I got from the mom-to-be, the host of the shower, and the guests!


This cake was an 8 inch round cake, perfect for the amount of guests at the shower. It was a confetti cake. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's a white cake with sprinkles in the batter. It was iced in vanilla buttercream and decorated with fondant accents.


The base of the cake was lined with a tan strip of fondant decorated with brown, green, and white polka dots to match the base of the invitation to the shower. I started with this because while I think it's cute, it's probably the least cute thing on this cake. Each of the animals were hand cut from fondant to match the invitation as well. Begin the cuteness parade...

The top of the cake was decorated with the words, "Sweet Baby Kohman". Kohman being the parents-to-be's last name (Duh!). These words were hand piped with some brown buttercream.


The words were written on a slight angle. Had I done them straight across I feared that they would cover up too much of that adorable little tree with Ms. Blue Bird and Mr. Owl on it!


The cake was very well received at the party by all the guests. The mom-to-be loved it as well, which for obvious reasons is the most important thing! I thought I did a very good job capturing the invitation also! ::pats herself on back:: I really like the style of this cake and I was so glad I was asked to make this cake for such an amazing event!

Congratulations Leslie! I can't wait to meet baby Kyle!

Is it a Boy or a Girl?

We shall soon find out!


These cupcakes were for some friends who were having a gender reveal party for their little bun in the oven. Jeff and Patricia got all of their closest friends and family together and needed some delicious desserts for their party.


They had the doctor write down the sex of the baby and put it in an envelope. They took the envelope to a party supply store with a huge box that was wrapped in blue and pink. They told the employees to fill the box with appropriately colored helium filled balloons so that when they opened the box up at the party it would spew out either pink or blue balloons letting everyone know if the new baby was going to be a boy or a girl! Such a cute idea and it was so fun to watch and be a part of!


These cupcakes were a delicious vanilla almond cake topped with vanilla buttercream. They were then covered in fondant decorated in blues and pinks with flowers, zig zags, and swirls. They turned out super cute and everyone loved the design as well as the taste!


I even made coordinating cupcake liners dressed with blue and pink bows. These cupcakes screamed "Boy! No, girl! Definitely girl! Well, maybe it's a boy! Or maybe a girl! Yep, girl! No boy! Definitely boy!" Did I confuse you? Ok, Ok, enough waiting! Now for the results...

IT'S A GIRL!!!!!


Congratulations Jeff and Patricia! They are soon-to-be parents of another baby girl! That makes 4 girls in the family and although it seems like an overwhelmingly amount of estrogen in the house, I think Jeff loves it! I'm so happy for you guys and can't wait to meet the little lady!

Baby Blue and an Elephant Too!

This cake was made for a baby shower and it matched the invitations, well... except for the soccer ball. I'm assuming the parents-to-be are soccer fans. I think it's pretty darn cute for a sheet cake which are not my favorite shapes of cake to make.


Like I said this was a half sheet cake. It was a delicious white cake with chocolate mousse in the middle. It was then iced and decorated with vanilla buttercream and chocolate buttercream - it's hard to make a good color brown icing without it being chocolate. It went really well with the chocolate mousse so no harm no foul.


Here's that darling "little" elephant from the invitations. He was decorated with dots and stars. Yep, that's right, that's a little soccer ball on the tip of his trunk. I just love his roundness... makes me want to just eat him up! And the good part about that is that he IS edible!


The sides of the cake match the design on the elephant. Sooo cute! It just screams beautiful baby boy, doesn't it?!?! Look at those precious little stars!


I thought of this phrase to go on top of the cake to match the overall theme. It couldn't just say "Congratulations"! It needed something more, something that explained the soccer ball at least a little bit! This phrase fit perfectly! The letters were hand piped onto the cake in a nice arc around the elephant. Again, they were chocolate buttercream... and delicious!


And the baby's name...


The party host, also aunt-to-be, was the one who ordered this deliciously cute cake. When I delivered the cake the tables were covered in baby blues and elephants too! The cake match the party decor perfectly! She loved the cake and hopefully the mommy-to-be loved it too!

Baby Baby Baby, oh Baby (a la Justin Beiber song)

This cake was for a baby shower celebrating the upcoming birth of a little baby boy! The cake was designed to match the shower invitations. Although the colors were so vibrant I think the little circles turned out great! Pastel colors scream baby anyways, right?



The cake portion of this purchase was an 8 inch round chocolate cake. If was filled and covered with rich cholocate buttercream. To top this chocolate dream off the entire cake was covered with a delicious chocolate ganache. What's better than a super duper chocolately cake for a mommy-to-be? It sounds like a match made in heaven to me! The topper was a too-cute pair of baby Converse shoes. Unfortunately I failed to get a picture of that! (Hopefully I will be sent one to post here!)


The cupcakes for the shower were a yellow cake with vanilla buttercream dyed different colors to match the main cake and the invitations. The dots on top of the cupcakes that also adorned the main cake were hand painted to match the invitations. That was probably my favorite part of making this cake... and cupcakes! The cupcakes sat within brown cupcake collars to match the entire theme of the shower.


No one had the baby blues at this party! The cake and the cupcakes were so well-liked that the grandma-to-be personally called me after the shower to tell me how much she loved everything! I was so happy that she asked me to make this cake and cupcakes for her and I'm so happy that she enjoyed every last bite!

Hooo's having a baby?

This cake was for a baby shower where the guest of honor (well, in a month or so) will have a nursery full of owls, blues, and greens. Yes folks, it's a boy! Wyatt James Harder is scheduled to make his debut on December 1st and his mommy's baby shower was today!


The hosts of the shower (the mommy-to-be's sister and best friend) wanted a cake that would not only match the theme of baby Wyatt's nursery but also that would match the invitations and theme of the shower. This cake was an 8 inch round white cake with vanilla buttercream filling. It had fondant accents for the dots, branches, leaves, and this oh so cute little owl! It was just enough for the shower guests and for the mommy-to-be to have two slices! Hey, she's allowed!


Here's the cake in all it's glory on the serving table at the shower. The hosts did a great job of pulling the colors and theme throughout the entire shower and this cake just topped the whole party off. Oh and in case you were wondering, yes I was at the shower. The mommy-to-be is a friend of mine and I was so pleased that she wanted me to make the cake for her! CONGRATULATIONS BRIDGETT!
