No Need For Bug Spray Here!

The past week there has been an infestation of the greatest kind! My kitchen was taken over by ladybugs between this cake and the ladybug smash cake! Apparently ladybugs are good luck so that's good! This order was a combination of cupcakes and a smash cake for a little girl who was turning 1. I'll start with the smash cake...

This cake was a 6" round single layer smash cake. It was a simple white cake (as most of the smash cakes I make are) with vanilla buttercream icing.

The smash cake was topped with this cute little ladybug also made from buttercream icing. Hopefully the red and black icing were easy to clean up because I'm sure baby Abigail wanted to "play" with this little ladybug.

The daisy was also made from buttercream icing. It was hand piped on the cake to match the daisies on all of the cupcakes. On top was a large red 1 to show off just how big the birthday girl is getting!

Of course the cake had to say the birthday girl's name! I decided to pipe it on the smash cake in curly cue letters. See how they kind of match the antennas on the ladybug itself! I love how little things like that can tie in together and make a cake that much better! On to the cuppies...

The cupcakes were a mix of chocolate cake and white cake but all were topped with a giant swirl of buttercream icing, a single little ladybug, and a white daisy! The ladybugs and daisies were hand made from fondant. I just think these overly small details make these cupcakes super precious! Makes you want to pick them up and eat them, right?!?! There were four colors of pastel icing on the cupcakes and they are as follows...

There were green cupcakes...

There were blue cupcakes...

There were yellow cupcakes... (my favorite color!)

And there were purple cupcakes!

I absolutely love how these little darlings turned out! I also love how the smash cake and the cupcakes match so well! Abigail's mom loved them as well! As for the party guests... well, they loved them too! I'm hoping Abigail loved her smash cake and that her mom got some great pictures! Ladybugs are all the rage right now and I absolutely know why... they are oh-so-cute!

"Thank you so much for the beautiful cupcakes for my daughter's one-year birthday party yesterday! They were a hit with everyone. And the best part is they were delicious. I'll be looking you up for future events!" -Steph A.

You can call me Lady...

Lady... Bug!

Ladybugs are all the rage right now (see future ladybug posts!) and this cake was no exception. It was a smash cake for a little girl named Paetyn who was turning 1.

This cutie-bug was a 6" round cake that was carved into a rounded bug shape. It was just a simple white cake with vanilla buttercream icing. All of the decorations were edible and made from buttercream except those adorable antennas, which were some simple thin wires curved to make this cake even cuter! Don't worry Mom and Dad took then out before giving to baby Paetyn!

The face was black buttercream. I hope they were able to clean Paetyn up good after smashing into those adorable mouth and eyes. Sometimes black icing has the tendency to tint fingers, teeth, lips, faces, etc... but it washes away! I promise!

That shiny red shell was originally just white buttercream. I used an edible spray paint to color it red. It was bad enough that there was the potential for a very messy 1 year old I didn't want to have both red AND black buttercream on the cake! So hopefully the red portion was a little less messy as far as tinting body parts goes! The line down this lady's back as well as her age dots were also black buttercream.

Every ladybug loves the grass and this cake was no exception! The green grass around the ladybug was hand piped vanilla buttercream dyed green. Probably the least likely to turn anyone's teeth a certain color! ;) The grass provided a nice border around the cake while still keeping true to the theme.

Overall, I absolutely LOVED the way this cake turned out. Paetyn's mom and dad saw this cake and they thought it was absolutely adorable. I couldn't agree more! I hope that baby Paetyn loved it as well and that Mom and Dad didn't have too much of a hard time with the cleanup!

I've got a new baking technique (***TOP SECRET***) for baking cakes that will end up this shape and I'm super excited to use it in the future! I'm thinking more ladybugs, baseballs, baby's bottoms, really anything that is rounded like this!

Who's Ready For Some Summer Fun?

I am! I am! And so is baby Alexa who was turning 1 and was having a summer fun birthday party!

This cake was a half sheet cake (11" x 15") and fed 35 people... this little girl is loved by a lot of people for being only 1! A party is not a party without people and the more the merrier I always say! It was designed to match the invitations sent out for Alexa's birthday party and I think I did a good job of capturing "summer fun" on a cake! The cake was a delicious white cake with different colored sprinkles sprinkled throughout the cake. It was iced in rich vanilla buttercream and decorated with fondant accents.

I came up with the phrase for the top of the cake all on my own BUT it's not really that difficult to think of something that incorporates the word "fun" and "one" since they rhyme and all! The letters in yellow were hand piped vanilla buttercream. The words "summer fun" and "1" were made from fondant and double layered to really stand out!

The sides of the cake were decorated in fondant to match the stripes that were in the background of the invitation. I tried to get the colors to match exactly and came pretty close! Either way it turned out really cute! And that shell border... that was just a little add in that I thought looked adorable with the whole theme of the cake.

Speaking of shells... the corners of the cake were lined with a big shell imprint and some pearls from the sea made from fondant! You can't have summer fun without some sea shells and EVERY girl loves her pearls!

These giant flip flops were straight from the invitation as well. They were all fondant. I gave them some definition with 3D orange dots on the soles, 3D teal straps, and that adorable pink and orange flower.

And of course Alexa had to have her own flip flops on top of her very own smash cake! These flip flops were made from buttercream except for the flower and her name that was hand rolled into those cute little letters which were fondant.

Oh how I just want to eat those little flippies up! So adorable!

On the sides of her cake were classic summer items such as beach balls and sand buckets. Both of these items were made with fondant. The sand in the buckets was actually brown sugar adhered with a little bit of water! Now that's some sand I wouldn't mind eating! The bottom of the cake was bordered with tealish/blue waves and yellow and pink dots. I can't wait to see pictures of Alexa smashing her cake!

Alexa's mom and dad loved the cake along with Grandma who was helping to set up for the party. I was really pleased with the way this cake turned out as well. The birthday girl however was napping so I was not able to see her expression. Hopefully some pictures will be floating my way soon.

Me No Want Cookie! Me Want Cake!

We all know that Cookie Monster loves his cookies but what could be better than a CAKE that looks like cookie monster?

This cake was for one of my dearest friends little boy who was turning 1! The theme of the party was as you can tell baby cookie monster! I had so much fun making this cake and Carter and his parents loved it!

Cookie monster himself sat on top of a 10 inch round cake that was made to look like the plates used at the party. The bottom cake served 25 while cookie monster served around 12... I don't know for sure because he was just too cute to cut up at the party! Hee hee! :) Both cakes were confetti cake with vanilla buttercream. It's gotta be a party on the inside too right?!

This googly eyed cutie was covered in hand-piped blue buttercream fur. Yes it took a long time and there were many hand cramps along the way but it was definitely worth it! The cookie he is holding is courtesy of the Keebler Elves. I didn't want to bake an ENTIRE batch of cookies... although they would have gone great with the cake.

Since this cookie monster was a baby he had to have a diaper and luckily it was a clean one! Adorned with safety pins made from fondant to keep that sucker on! In addition to the diaper being fondant the cake that cookie monster is sitting on is covered in fondant as well.

And what's a first birthday without a smash cake? And what's a cookie monster party without a "cookie"? This smash cake was covered in buttercream which ended up getting destroyed by the birthday boy... after a little coaxing from mom of course! The "chips" were painted on with brown food coloring. Nom nom nom!

This is a picture of the birthday boy with his cake. He sure is checking that cake out hard. I like to think that the cake looks SO real that he is wondering why cookie monster is not moving!

I was so honored to be asked to make this cake and I loved the way it turned out!
Happy Birthday Carter!

"Carter's cake was so amazing and beyond our expectation. We cannot thank you enough for how grateful we are for such a fabulous cake that truly made Carter's party! Thank you! I am so excited for future cakes from you!" -Noelle L.

Royalty Times 2!

What's better than one member of a royal family? TWO members! This cake was for a birthday party for a little prince and princess who were turning 1 and wanted to celebrate in style!

These twins were equipped with their own personal smash cakes while the rest of the party guests enjoyed devouring their humble abode... a giant castle!

The party cake was an 8 inch round white cake with delicious creamy vanilla buttercream filling. Like my previous and very first castle cake I used the same general structure but switched up the colors, details, and design.

I decided that these two royal twins needed their names on this cake. I hand piped the lettering honoring Carter and Gracie on the top of the castle.

The drawbridge castle door was made from fondant and turned out great. Other fondant accents on this cake include the fondant covered cardboard roll towers, the fondant covered ice cream cone turrets, the rim all around the castle, and the windows that the inhabitants of the castle can peek trough. Buttercream dots, ribbons, and shells also adorned the castle in multiple places.

If there was any image that I could pipe onto these two smash cakes, a royal crown was it!

Carter's cake was a simple white 6 inch smash cake. It donned a boyish blue crown, his name, and a #1 stating that it was his birthday and no one else's.... but wait! It was Gracie's birthday too!

Gracie's cake was the same size as Carter's. With siblings everything has to be the same, am I right all the mom's out there? Her cake sported a pink and gold crown stating her name and her age as well.

I can't wait to see pictures of these two literally smashing their little fists into these two cakes. When I delivered the cake the royal grandparents of these twins and the king of the castle seemed to love the design. I hope the rest of the party guests enjoyed the cake as much as I enjoyed making it!

"The cake was amazing! So moist! I'll have to send you pics of the twins destroying their smash cake." -Brianne H.

Can you tell me how to get...

How to get to Sesame Street? Sure I can! Right this way...

This cake was for a darling little girl who was turning 1 and her mom was throwing her a Sesame Street inspired party with Bird Bird as the co-VIP!

The main cake was for everyone else at the party. It was a 6 inch round on top of an 8 inch round. Both tiers were a delicious white and fudge marble cake with raspberry filling and vanilla buttercream icing. The famous sign that dons Kaitlyn's name was hand cut from fondant along with the polka dots and the many many presents along the bottom tier.

Miss Kaitlyn would have her own smash cake with Bird Bird's face on it to entice her to "play" with him. Meaning that she would inevitable reach out for that cuddly yellow bird, realize he was actually made from frosting, and then EAT HIM - in the nicest most sesame street way as possible! :) Her cake was a simple white cake and the decorations were all sweet vanilla buttercream. I'm sure her parents got some great pictures and there was probably a lot of clean up to do in the end. Oh well, as long as Kaitlyn enjoyed it, right? Right!

Kaitlyn's mom had some cute little toppers that fit the Sesame Street theme so well. Unfortunately, I did not get a picture with them adorning the cake! Sad face... tear... Now's the time when you would close your eyes and imagine them there on top of the cake! Hopefully, Kaitlyn's mom will send me a picture of the toppers on the cake AS WELL AS little Kaitlyn smashing into her own personal cake! I love those photos!

The whole family loved the cake and all of the party decorations looked great and the cake fit in fantastically! Hopefully, they loved the flavor and taste as well!
